Before partnering with ecosio, Sortimo already operated established EDI connections, particularly for automotive customers. However, as mandatory e-invoicing requirements expanded across Europe, the existing setup could no longer provide the visibility or scalability the team needed.
The previous provider functioned largely as a “black box”, offering limited insight into message statuses, conversion steps, or error causes. At the same time, Sortimo had to manage increasingly complex country-specific e-invoicing requirements across multiple markets, including Italy and France. This created several challenges:

Real-time visibility with ecosio Monitor
The Sortimo team was especially impressed by ecosio Monitor,
which provides real-time visibility into every message and conversion step. They can now investigate and resolve issues directly without relying on support requests.

Country-specific compliance expertise
The project covered multiple country-specific e-invoicing and EDI scenarios, with Italy representing the most demanding rollout and France becoming the next key focus.
In Italy, Sortimo was not only introducing e-invoicing, but also building a completely new SAP setup for the local plant. Because no real invoice data was available, processes and test cases had to be defined from scratch. ecosio significantly reduced the technical effort by handling most of the field mappings into the Italian FatturaPA format and supporting the team in resolving validation issues quickly.
Real-time visibility through ecosio Monitor also helped stabilise the process during early rollout phases, especially in complex invoice scenarios. Beyond Italy, the project expanded into additional markets, including preparations for France, creating a scalable foundation for future international rollouts.
We first had to get up to speed with e-invoicing. It’s highly technical, and at the beginning it wasn’t always clear what needed to be done, especially with strict authorities like in Italy.

Sortimo now has a stronger foundation for the next phase of European e-invoicing. One major focus is preparing for Germany’s upcoming outbound e-invoicing requirements, where early groundwork on formats, customer data and process design will be essential.
At the same time, Sortimo is continuing to expand its international setup, including France and the further use of Peppol for incoming invoice-related processes. With ecosio, the team has a partner that supports both day-to-day operational reliability and long-term regulatory readiness.
