Case study | SIGA
Together with ecosio, SIGA implemented EDI connections for key customers as well as country-specific e-invoicing requirements. Fully integrated into SIGA’s SAP environment, the solution enabled a phased rollout of e-invoicing, aligned with local requirements and individual project phases.
Results at a glance
SIGA doesn’t need to build deep internal expertise for each country-specific format or individual customer requirement
Message transmissions run reliably, with virtually no outages
Particularly in countries such as Italy and France, SIGA benefits from ecosio’s technical and regulatory expertise as well as ongoing support
Before the current solution was introduced, EDI and e-invoicing processes at SIGA were not yet structured. Requirements were primarily driven by external factors, such as changing customer requirements and country-specific e-invoicing regulations.
Despite the growing need for e-invoicing, SIGA invoices were still predominantly sent through traditional channels, such as by post or as PDF attachments via email, creating several key challenges for the company, including:
SIGA’s solution selection was guided by four core objectives:
Maintain a standard ERP environment
SIGA wanted to stay as close as possible to its existing ERP standard, without introducing unnecessary custom complexity
SIMPLIFY COMPLIANCE
Both regulatory requirements and the demands of individual key customers needed to be implemented reliably and on time
MINIMISE internal workload
SIGA did not want to build extensive internal expertise in areas that are not part of its core business
FUTURE-PROOF PROCESSES
SIGA wanted a solution that would allow for simple integration of additional countries, formats, and partner requirements moving forwards
Ultimately, SIGA chose ecosio due to the solution’s ability to meet their key requirements for simple technical integration, operational reliability, and strong technical and regulatory expertise.
To minimise the burden on internal resources and navigate different European mandates, SIGA and ecosio followed a phased, country-specific rollout. This localised approach allowed SIGA to address varying technical standards, regulatory requirements, and implementation timelines in each market.
This was especially important in countries such as Germany and France, where e-invoicing obligations are being introduced in phases and companies need to prepare early for evolving technical and regulatory requirements.
Germany
Incoming e-invoices were successfully implemented at the end of 2024. The implementation of outgoing e-invoices is currently underway. ecosio is supporting SIGA with industry benchmarks and recommendations on commonly used formats to identify the right solution for customer requirements in view of the obligations from 2026 onwards.
France
The implementation was started early so that SIGA would be ready for the French requirements in good time. As regulatory requirements continued to evolve over the course of the project and were initially only published in French, ecosio supported SIGA through ongoing monitoring of regulatory updates and technical consulting. This allowed relevant process requirements to be identified at an early stage.
In countries like France, where requirements are still evolving, it is a big help to have a partner like ecosio. They monitor regulatory changes, tell us what we need to clarify internally, and help us move forward without having to work through all the government documentation on our own.
Beyond France and Germany, SIGA and ecosio have also established live connections in markets such as Italy, Norway and Sweden, supporting a broader rollout across Europe.
1) Reduced internal specialist workload
SIGA does not need to build internal expertise for every country requirement or customer standard. This significantly reduces project overhead and frees up internal resources.
With ecosio, we don’t have to become experts in every country’s e-invoicing standard or every customer requirement. ecosio brings that know-how to the table, keeping the effort on our side very manageable.
2) Focus on value-creating activities
SIGA’s internal team can concentrate on activities closer to the company’s core value creation rather than dedicating resources to invoicing or ordering processes.
For our development team, working with ecosio means we can focus on value-creating day-to-day work. E-invoicing and ordering processes aren’t where we want to invest internal know-how and resources. That’s why a partner like ecosio is extremely helpful.
3) High operational stability
The collaboration is described as highly reliable. Message transmissions run smoothly, and support is quick and proactive.
Communication with ecosio is extremely straightforward. We receive quick responses to support questions, technical topics, and new solutions. Response times are short, it’s easy to set up a call, and we’ve experienced almost no message transmission outages.
4) Scalability for new partner and country scenarios
When new requirements arise, SIGA can address them with manageable effort, especially when ecosio already has experience with the relevant partners or scenarios.
With ecosio, we don’t have to invest energy in the conceptual side because the necessary know-how is already there. This saves us from having to build this expertise internally, which would require significant additional effort in projects like these. ecosio makes compliance with country-specific requirements much easier.
As e-invoicing and EDI requirements continue to evolve, SIGA can rely on ecosio to provide the technical infrastructure, operational reliability, and regulatory expertise needed to scale with confidence.
With ecosio, SIGA reduced internal overhead, stayed compliant across countries, and gained a stable setup that can scale with future requirements.
