Scaling EDI across Europe with ecosio

With ecosio, MM Group consolidated a fast-growing landscape of EDI connections that its in-house middleware could no longer manage, gained greater visibility and self-service testing through ecosio Monitor, and laid the groundwork for e-invoicing across several European markets.

Results at a glance

Message testing: from up to two weeks to ~30 minutes

End-to-end message tests that once meant days or weeks of chasing partners by email now take MM Group about 30 minutes via self-service simulation in the portal

Around 80% of visibility requests resolved

Roughly 80% of MM Group’s requests for better visibility into client set-ups are now handled directly in ecosio’s portal

Scalable EDI with a lean team

A growing number of EDI connections is maintained centrally with ecosio, freeing MM Group’s one- to two-person integration team to focus on new projects

ecosio is a very good option in the European market. The solution is easy to integrate, and it doesn't cost too much to establish a simple connection.

In a nutshell

MM Group partnered with ecosio to take over the growing complexity of its EDI connections, which had previously been maintained internally by a small team using its own middleware. With ecosio Monitor, the team now has far greater visibility into message flows and can run end-to-end tests independently. After years of EDI collaboration, MM Group is expanding its work with ecosio into e-invoicing across France, Romania, Portugal and Germany, ahead of the Q4 2026 mandates.

The challenge

Before expanding its cooperation with ecosio, MM Group managed EDI largely in house. Its EDI setup began with a single middleware solution handling communication between internal and external systems, alongside a few basic connections such as those used for sending order confirmations.

As data volumes and partner numbers grew, the setup expanded exponentially and the existing middleware could no longer keep pace. Maintaining this landscape with only a small in-house team became a significant task.

Several challenges made this increasingly difficult.

The solution

Having already worked with ecosio for several years across a range of EDI connections, MM Group found the decision to expand the collaboration into e-invoicing an easy one. When asked why ecosio was selected, MM Group pointed to three clear reasons:

Real-time visibility and self-service with ecosio Monitor

MM Group uses ecosio Monitor extensively to manage and track ongoing projects. The team can investigate message flows and run tests independently, without the lengthy email exchanges required previously.

Compliance expertise and ready-to-use documentation

As MM Group prepared for e-invoicing in multiple countries, ecosio’s detailed, country-specific guidance and documentation were a decisive factor.

A simple service that's easy to integrate

MM Group was impressed with the number of strong reviews from other customers and the simplicity of the service, which was clear from the very first meetings.

I use ecosio’s Monitor heavily, especially the task section, where I manage the current projects that the engineers then work on. With ecosio, we mostly keep email for new project requests, estimates and general communication.”

The project

The project covers a growing landscape of EDI connections across MM Group’s European operations, including production sites in several countries. Rather than maintaining these connections in-house, MM Group has ecosio set up, transform and maintain the message flows centrally, with ongoing projects tracked in ecosio Monitor.

Building on this foundation, MM Group is extending its work with ecosio into e-invoicing. Rollouts are underway or under discussion for France, Romania, Portugal and Germany, with new government e-invoicing and e-reporting requirements in Q4 2026 (October to December) as a critical milestone. In parallel, MM Group is working through its ERP landscape, which includes SAP and Microsoft Dynamics 365, to prepare the underlying connections.

The end-to-end testing with ecosio was good and properly done. As a customer, I can simulate the testing on my own and mimic the customer.

The results

By centralising its EDI connections with ecosio, MM Group has accelerated testing, improved visibility and reduced the operational workload for its lean integration team.

I’ve found solutions for around 80% of my requests for better visibility into a client’s set-up in the ecosio portal. Everything with ecosio has worked well, and I’m closing my open items across the production and retail parts of the business. It’s quite robust.

Significantly faster end-to-end testing

Self-service testing has removed one of the biggest bottlenecks. What used to take days or up to two weeks now takes around 30 minutes.

Greater visibility and self-service in the portal

Around four fifths of MM Group’s requests for better visibility into client set-ups are now resolved directly in the ecosio portal, giving the team more insight and independence.

A robust, scalable foundation with less operational load

With ecosio maintaining the connections centrally, MM Group’s lean integration team can keep a growing landscape running reliably across the production and retail sides of the business.

A partnership built for growth

I used to wait anywhere from a few days to two weeks for a message test from a customer. Now, with ecosio’s end-to-end testing and the ability to simulate it myself, I can do it in 30 minutes. That’s a huge improvement, with no more waiting on emails and reminders.

MM Group now has a more scalable and transparent foundation for its EDI operations, and a partner to grow with. Over the past year, the team has seen steady progress in the platform’s tooling, and expects monitoring and reporting to develop further.

The next major focus is e-invoicing. With mandatory requirements approaching in Q4 2026 across several of MM Group’s markets, a key priority is enabling finance and accounting teams, not just the integration specialists, to take part in monitoring and reporting.

MM Group also plans to advance connections across its ERP landscape, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 and, in future, SAP.
